An Alzheimer's caregiver plays an important role in the lives of people living with Alzheimer's disease. It can be an emotionally draining experience to watch someone you love slowly losing the battle with the disease. As Alzheimer's progresses, the person loses the brain functions necessary to complete even simple tasks. Are forced to rely more heavily on those around them for support and care. For the caregiver, this may lead to increased stress and other emotional issues.

The Alzheimer's Association identified the following signs of caregiver stress: denial, anger, social isolation, anxiety, depression, exhaustion, sleeplessness, irritability, poor concentration and health problems. It is important to remember that when you are caring for someone else, be sure to take care of you too. What good is it to someone else if you are so exhausted that it can not cope with what is around you? If you have increased stress, decreased sleep and poor diet, this can also lead to problems with memory loss and anxiety.

It is important to educate you about the resources available to someone living with Alzheimer's disease. You do not have to do everything yourself. There are programs available that can help with home care, nursing home or an Alzheimer's caregiver. This can provide the support that the breaks and the need to continue to care for your loved one. Where progress to the point where they are no longer able to stay at home or there are concerns about wandering and then there are care services that can provide specialized nursing care. Using resources available to you.

It's also good to plan ahead. Before your loved one has advanced much in Alzheimer's disease, discuss with them about what they want to be desired. This is the time to assess the finances and the plans and all the legal work that may be needed. This will make it much easier to treat when they arrive at the time that can not process this information.
